PostgreSQL 19 reaches RC1, with final release planned for November

PostgreSQL 19 RC1 fixes issues in concurrent repacking, query planning, logical replication and parallel autovacuum. It also corrects JSON exports to use query column aliases. The project plans another release candidate on November 12 and general availability on November 19, allowing more fixes into the release. Treat this as an upgrade-testing opportunity, not the final production version.

Why it matters

Testing representative queries before a major release can expose compatibility problems while fixes are still possible.

More context

Try RC1 against a disposable copy of your workload. Moving from an earlier major version requires pg_upgrade or a dump-and-restore strategy; the dates remain conditional on finding no blocking issues.

Keep in mind

This remains a release candidate, and the schedule can change.
