PostgreSQL’s SLES 15.6 package repositories move to an archive

The PostgreSQL packaging team is retiring its main SLES 15.6 repositories and moving their existing packages into an archive. The archived builds remain available, including PostgreSQL 18, but will receive no further updates. The team points users toward a newer SUSE service pack or the archive. This concerns a distribution-specific package channel, rather than the end of support for every PostgreSQL installation.

Why it matters

An installation can keep working while its configured package source quietly stops supplying updates.

More context

Check hosts and build images using SLES 15.6 against their actual repository configuration. The team’s repository generator includes archived combinations of distribution version, architecture and PostgreSQL version. Plan a supported platform path rather than treating archive availability as ongoing maintenance.

Keep in mind

The notice does not describe a new PostgreSQL vulnerability or force an immediate database upgrade. An archive can preserve reproducibility without providing future security fixes.
