Copilot’s editor handoff keeps the conversation attached to the worktree
GitHub documents opening a Copilot app session directly in VS Code, preserving its conversation, changed files and isolated Git worktree. This lets an engineer inspect the diff, make manual edits and run local checks without reconstructing the task in a new chat. Continuing in the same branch also keeps the existing pull request connected. The workflow preserves context, while leaving validation and review to the engineer.

Why it matters
An agent-to-editor transition is easier to review when the explanation and the actual checkout move together.
More context
The tutorial requires the Copilot app, VS Code signed into the same GitHub account, an existing session and repository push permissions. Try Open in VS Code on a small session, confirm the worktree and branch, and run the repository’s checks before committing through the normal review process.
Keep in mind
This is a documented workflow, not evidence that generated changes are correct. Repository permissions, local dependencies and the user’s Copilot access still apply; the tutorial does not establish universal plan availability.
