HypoPG fixes state handling during index experiments

HypoPG 1.4.4 fixes errors that could leave later queries affected by a failed EXPLAIN and improves invalidation when objects used by hypothetical indexes change. The PostgreSQL extension lets you ask whether the planner would use a proposed index without building it. The release also fixes option-memory leaks, included-column limits and several PostgreSQL 19 compatibility issues.

Why it matters

Database engineers can make index-planning experiments more dependable before paying the cost of creating a real index.

More context

Hypothetical indexes belong to one database connection and are considered by EXPLAIN without ANALYZE. The project requires PostgreSQL server headers to build and documents recreating the extension when updating because its objects hold no saved data.

Keep in mind

Planner estimates do not measure real execution speed or index-maintenance cost. The announcement was posted October 26 and identifies the release itself as October 25; this is an extension update, not a PostgreSQL server release.
