Vercel workers can bind to private services in their own deployment

Vercel Daemons can now call a deployment’s private services through declared bindings. The binding supplies a service URL in an environment variable, while Vercel handles routing, authentication and TLS. A worker keeps using the deployment that started it even after a promotion or rollback. Bindings are one-way: a service cannot bind back to a daemon.

Why it matters

Background workers need predictable service-version routing when deployments change while tasks are still running.

More context

The October 30 update adds a service binding to the daemon configuration and uses ordinary HTTP requests in worker code. Test a worker against a noncritical service, then verify how old instances behave during rollout. Daemons remain a public beta with plan quotas.

Keep in mind

This is a deployment-scoped connection mechanism, not an arbitrary service mesh or a change to task durability. Infrastructure charges and the behavior of interrupted work still need separate review.
