Datasette’s LLM plugin can inherit your existing default model

Datasette’s language-model integration plugin now falls back to the LLM command-line tool’s default model when no other default is specified. The 0.1a9 prerelease reduces repeated configuration for plugins that depend on it, including Datasette Agent. It is a small setup improvement; the author’s larger planned Datasette Agent upgrades are still upcoming.

Why it matters

An inherited default can simplify setup, but users should know which model their database workflow will call.

More context

For an existing Datasette Agent setup, try this prerelease with a nonsensitive scratch database and inspect the selected model. The integration still depends on the configured LLM environment; the release removes the need to repeat an explicit model setting in this case.

Keep in mind

This is an alpha prerelease. Provider access and inference charges depend on the selected model; this change does not make every provider free or local.
