F-Droid 2.0 rebuilds Android app discovery with Kotlin and Compose

F-Droid 2.0 redesigns the open-source Android app store around Discover, Search and My Apps. Search now covers descriptions, categories and translations, while combined filters narrow results by compatibility and other properties. Kotlin and Jetpack Compose underpin the reworked interface. Supported devices can approve installation before a download finishes, and update checks run automatically while respecting existing preferences.

Why it matters

A useful release for Android users and a concrete example of modernizing a long-lived mobile application.

More context

The rollout follows 14 test releases and is scheduled over several weeks. Review the migration notes before updating, particularly if your workflow depends on privacy features or a customized Android distribution.

Keep in mind

Android 6 support is dropped. The old panic-trigger app-wiping feature and Privileged Extension support are not present in 2.0; users relying on them may need to wait.
