Python 3.16 starts its alpha cycle
Python 3.16.0 alpha 1 is available as an early development preview, the first of seven planned alphas. The release schedule allows new features until the first beta in May 2027, with the final release planned for October 2027. Library maintainers can start compatibility testing now; this is not a production-ready upgrade, and features can still change or disappear.

Why it matters
Early compatibility checks give maintainers more time to report regressions before the release freezes.
More context
Try the preview in an isolated test environment, keeping production on a supported stable Python release. The announcement schedules the final release for October 5, 2027.
Keep in mind
Release dates are plans, and alpha behavior is not a stable compatibility promise.
