GrapheneOS reports more banking apps accepting its operating system

GrapheneOS says around a dozen banking apps now explicitly permit its operating system alongside Google-approved systems. The project distinguishes an app refusing an operating system from an app that needs its per-app exploit-protection compatibility mode to run. Its linked compatibility list relies on user reports. For Android developers, the takeaway is to investigate actual failures separately from policy checks that intentionally reject a device environment.

Why it matters

A platform allowlist and a runtime compatibility problem can look identical to a user while requiring different fixes.

More context

Check the exact app, device and operating-system version against the linked community list before relying on a banking workflow. For troubleshooting, record whether the app rejects the system outright or changes behavior under the compatibility setting.

Keep in mind

These are the project’s reports, not independent tests of every bank. Compatibility and institution policies can change, and relaxed exploit protection has security trade-offs.
