Agent Skills moves its name and shared project to a foundation

Anthropic is donating Agent Skills’ name, logo, GitHub organization and website domain to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation. The format packages task instructions, scripts and references around a SKILL.md file. Maintainers from several companies will help govern the shared project. Versioned releases, a formal proposal process and security guidance are proposed next steps, rather than completed features of the donation.

A shared format becomes easier to depend on when its governance can include competing tool providers.

Read the specification and test a small instruction-only skill in the agents your team uses. Participation and contribution do not require foundation membership. Review any bundled scripts and each agent’s permissions before allowing execution.

Portable packaging does not guarantee identical behavior, safe scripts or equivalent permission boundaries across agents.
